Anwar El Ghazi’s second-half strike earned Aston Villa a 2-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park.
Villa took the after 13 minutes when Mason Holgate fluffed an attempted backpass under pressure from Ollie Watkins and the Villa striker pounced to slot past Jordan Pickford.
The visitors’ lead lasted just six minutes, however, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin lost marker Ross Barkley, the former Everton midfielder, to power home a header from Lucas Digne’s corner.
It was only his fourth goal in his last 17 Premier League matches.
Both sides wasted chances prior to the break before El Ghazi curled home the winner with nine minutes remaining.
