Day 3 saw the other two teams from Group A and B play their first games.
Holland and Scotland played out a 0-0 draw at Villa Park in front of 34,363 fans in the early kick off.
The two had played four years previously at Euro 92 and the Dutch won that game thanks to a goal from Dennis Bergkamp. In that respect, the Scots can definitely take today as a great result.
After today’s game, all four teams in Group A all have one point. England and Switzerland occupy the top two places though because they have both scored a goal.
Meanwhile in Group B, France beat Romania 1-0 at St James’ Park in Newcastle to go top of the group.
A moment of madness from the Romanian goalkeeper Bogdan Stelea lead to the only goal of the game after 25 minutes.
Youri Djorkaeff whipped the ball in from the right wing to Christophe Dugarry at the edge of the box. Stelea raced off his line and the French striker leapt up with a Romanian defender to loop a header over the keeper and into the unguarded net.
The French are now top of Group B with three points, Spain and Bulgaria have one apiece and Romania have no points.
