Cavani advised to consider Man Utd exit by Uruguay coach

Man Utd striker Edinson Cavani has been advised to consider an Old Trafford exit by Uruguay’s assistant coach.

The 34-year-old has been heavily linked with Boca Juniors in recent months.

The Argentinian outfit are keen to sign Cavani once his Man Utd contract expires in June.

Uruguay assistant coach Mario Rebollo was recently asked about the Cavani rumours.

He told Uruguayan source Two De Punta (via Goal): “It helps the national team if Cavani goes to Boca or wherever.

“The priority is that he plays where he is comfortable and with a good competitive level. If he’s close to here it’d be great, but if he’s not comfortable he would not bear it much.

“It would be good for us if Cavani plays where he feels most comfortable. It makes no difference to me if it’s Boca or another place, just where he’s better.

“We have to have him with rhythm and competition.”

Earlier this month, Cavani’s father gave his take on the situation.

He said: “My son is not happy in England and wants to return nearer his family. He wants to play in South America.

“I want Edinson to play for a team which fights for important trophies. He has had many conversations with [Boca vice-president Juan Roman] Riquelme and would like to play for Boca.

“At the halfway point of the year, he’d like to return to South America. My son’s idea is not to continue there [in Manchester]. He wants to return.

“I think he’s going to come back in June this year. He has a clause in his contract which allows him to leave in June.”

Boca Juniors are the favourites to land Cavani this summer, although they won’t be the only team in the race.

Leaving Man Utd would see Cavani gain interest from all across Europe due to his goalscoring talents.

The Red Devils might seek to extend his spell at Old Trafford to prevent those rumours.

There’s a clause in the forward’s contract which means he can stay for an extra year.

If the Uruguayan international does leave in the coming months, then Erling Haaland will be targeted to lead United’s attack.

It’s thought that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a close relationship with Haaland and wants to make him a Premier League star.
