Woodward ‘is part’ of potential Man Utd success – Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he has a “very good working relationship” with Ed Woodward during his time as Man Utd manager after it was announced that the executive vice-chairman will leave before the end of the year.

The Old Trafford giants were controversially taken over by the Glazer family in 2005 and are in the eye of a storm, having become one of the 12 founding members of the European Super League announced on Sunday.

The breakaway competition unravelled in a matter of days, with Woodward resigning, the Red Devils pulling out and co-chairman Glazer writing to fans admitting “we got it wrong”.

Despite his resignation, Solskjaer says that Woodward will still be “part of” a successful season if Man Utd can win the Europa League and keep up their form in the Premier League.

“Football is emotions and emotions run high in football,” said Solskjaer.

“I’ve had a very good working relationship with Ed, the club will have to move on without him and I’m sure Manchester United will always move on.

“I’ll work as long as Manchester United want me to work here and hopefully we can end this season successfully and Ed is part of that.”

Solskjaer is preparing his side to face rivals Leeds United in the Premier League on Sunday and the Man Utd boss is aware of the importance of the match to fans.

“Inside the stadium there won’t be any fans unfortunately, but obviously it is important we focus on our game,” said Solskjaer.

“Fans between our clubs always have a rivalry but it has to be healthy, which is important in a period like this.

“We have listened to the fans now and I’m so happy they have been heard. Now let’s go onto the game of football.

“That game [against Leeds in December] we started unbelievably well and we scored in the first two attacks. It was never a 6-2 win and I don’t expect the same kind of score line.

“The difference between the teams was not four goals, we were clinical. We know we will be stretched physically and mentally in this game. It is a unique game.”
