Manchester United star Paul Pogba has talked up his relationship with France boss Didier Deschamps, as he insists that he is not given any special treatment.
Deschamps has been the manager of France since 2012. Pogba is a vital player for his country as he helped them finish as runners-up at Euro 2016.
They went one better in 2018 as they beat Croatia 4-2 to in the final to lift their second World Cup.
Pogba is the Man Utd ‘fancy stuff’ Solskjaer must avoid
Pogba’s performances for Man United have been inconsistent over the last few years. But he has arguably played his best football in a France shirt.
Pogba has told Le10sport that he is “very grateful” to Deschamps for what he has done for him:
“If Deschamps pampers me? No (laughs), we have a relationship that was created a long time ago.
“The stick and the carrot should not be forgotten (laughs). He always told me my truths, he always pushed me to play good games, not to overdo it, to just do what I have to do.
“He was always behind me, never gave me gifts, and was always straightforward. He helped me become this leader in the France team, he gave me that confidence. I’m very grateful. I try to give everything back on the pitch.”
Elsewhere, Pogba’s Man United teammate, Bruno Fernandes, has insisted that team trophies are far more important than any individual accolades.
“I always said individual trophies are really good for players.
“It lifts you up, of course. I would never say I don’t want individual trophies.
“(But) it’s not more important than a group trophy, a team trophy, for me, but it is always important.
“It is something you’re doing well, you’re doing your game really good, doing the right things, it means you can do a little bit more, means you can also improve a little bit more.
“But at the same time it means people are liking you, the way you play, the way you’re trying to help the team, the way you do things – so that is more important for me.
“But more important than that is winning a trophy at the end of the season and this is all about this because football is a team sport and for me it’s about winning trophies.”
