Alli ‘switched on’ for Spurs after failed PSG move, says Lloris

Spurs captain Hugo Lloris says Dele Alli has ‘switched on’ for the club since his failed move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The French side, now managed by Mauricio Pochettino, have long held an interest in Alli.

They were closely linked with a loan move in January but Spurs decided to keep the attacking midfielder.

Since the transfer debacle, Alli has fought his way back into Jose Mourinho’s team and made an impact.

He scored a great overhead kick in the 4-0 win over Wolfsberger AC and played a big part in the winner against Fulham.

Speaking about Alli, keeper Lloris said: “I don’t want to talk about January. It’s his personal situation and I don’t want to talk on behalf of the club, I’m not the right person to do it.

“As a team-mate, he’s always been professional. He put his disappointment on the side and from day one in the second part of the season, after the transfer market closed, he switched on.

“He started to step-by-step improve his fitness and get as much confidence as he can.

“Now he’s coming back and that’s good for the team and obviously the best for the season is ahead of us.”

Heung-Min Son set up Alli for the only goal against Fulham. The Englishman’s flick was then turned into the net by defender Tosin Adarabioyo.

The three points keep Spurs in the running for a top four place. They’ve had a mixed season and are five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

Lloris continued: “For some reason there has been ups and downs in our performance. But we’re still looking forward to improving things and getting better.

“We still believe we can finish high in the table, we’re still in the race. But it’s difficult obviously.

“We’ve missed points but with 12 games to go anything is possible and we need to believe.

“The confidence is coming back into the team so that’s very important.”
