David de Gea will be sold by Manchester United if the club manage to agree a new, lucrative contract with Paul Pogba.
Pogba’s current deal expires in 2022 and, until recently, it looked as though he would be on his way out of club this summer, with United eager to recoup some, if not all of the £89million they forked out for him in 2016.
His impressive recent form has changed the dynamic, however. United are now thought to be pursuing a contract extension for the Frenchman – with his agent Mino Raiola demanding £500,000 a week.
Such a burden would force the club to reassess where they are allocating their funds, and according to The Sun, De Gea – the current highest earner – is seen as dispensable.
Dean Henderson has leapfrogged the Spaniard in the pecking order in recent weeks, with De Gea relegated to a Europa League role and Henderson now the designated Premier League goalkeeper.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s relationship with Pogba, meanwhile, has blossomed this season.
When asked if the club would cash-in on their star midfielder, the Norwegian replied: “No, of course not.

“I have always said with Paul that I enjoy managing him, I enjoy coaching him, I enjoy talking to him and I also enjoy challenging him because he is a winner.
“He wants to be better and that’s why he listens. You can see he’s enjoying himself here as well.
“He has a smile on his face. It’s important we treat each other with respect and I try to treat everyone with the same amount of respect.
“But there are some players you have known since they were young lads and that’s the case with Paul: the longer you have known them the easier it is to have a bond with them.”
Pogba, in a subtle dig at former boss Jose Mourinho, reciprocated the warmth in May: “What I have now with Ole is different, he wouldn’t go against the players,” he told Sky Sports.
“Maybe Ole wouldn’t pick them, but it’s not like he puts them on the side like they don’t exist anymore.”
