Former Chelsea star Michael Essien says his former club will win the Premier League next season under Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel has tranformed the Blues into one of the top teams in Europe following Frank Lampard’s sacking, guiding them to the FA Cup and Champions League finals, with them also well placed to finish in the top four despite a 1-0 loss to Arsenal on Wednesday.
Chelsea have kept 11 clean sheets in the league since the German took charge in January, conceding just 12 goals in the process, and it’s this superb defensive record which has been the bedrock of Tuchel’s reign.

But Essien is impressed with the quality and strength in depth all over the pitch, believing Tuchel has the tools at his disposal to clinch the title next season.
“I’m going to say Chelsea win the league next season, based on how good they’ve looked since Thomas Tuchel has taken over,” Essien told Ladbrokes.
“They’re my first choice for the title, then it’s obviously going to be United, Liverpool and City who will be right up there with them.
“With the players Thomas Tuchel has got at his disposal, I think he’s got all the tools needed to challenge for the title next season
“If you look from the goalkeepers to the forwards, they’ve got big names all over the pitch. They’ve got it all.”
Chelsea spent over £200million on new signing in the summer, with a similar spree expected this time around, but for all the money spent on the likes of Kai Havertz, TImo Werner and Ben Chilwell, to varying to degrees of success, Essien claims it’s been free transfer Thiago Silva who’s been the standout new signing.
“I love the fact that they’ve got Thiago Silva at the back, his experience really is vital to that team and he’s such a great name the younger players in the squad can learn from,” Essien added.
“He commands the back line very well. But even without him, they’ve got Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen, so they’re very strong in that area.”
