Chelsea summer target drops hints about his future

Chelsea target Jonas Hofmann has spoken about his future after being linked with a move to the Premier League.

The midfielder came through the ranks with 1899 Hoffenheim before he moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2011.

The German made 71 appearances for their reserve team up until the end of the 2013/14 season and he scored 15 goals. He was handed his senior debut for Dortmund in December 2012.

Hofmann made 59 appearances for the German outfit. He was managed by Thomas Tuchel towards the end of his time at the club.

The 28-year-old left Dortmund in January 2016 to join Borussia Monchengladbach. He has been a key player for them since signing, as he has made 128 appearances in just over five years.

His form for Gladbach earned him his first caps for Germany in 2020. He made his senior debut in a friendly against Turkey in October.

German outlet Bild recently reported that there have been discussions between Tuchel and Hofmann about a move. The midfielder is rated at around £14m.

In an interview with Ruhr Nachrichten, Hofmann insisted that he is dedicated to Gladbach despite there being interest from other clubs.

“Basically, I feel good at Borussia, I’ve always emphasised that. It may be that one or the other club has expressed its interest.

“Nevertheless, for me, the absolute focus is on having a successful season with Borussia and dedicating myself fully to success. I put my personal situation under it.”

When asked directly about talking with Chelsea representatives, Hofmann said: “I think it’s clear that other clubs will notice you if you perform well. Therefore, it is possible that one or the other has already asked.”
