Chelsea are interested in signing Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng this summer with his contract set to expire, according to reports.
Boateng came through the ranks with German side Hertha Berlin. He signed for their Bundesliga rivals Hamburg ahead of the 2007/08 season.
A successful three-year spell there led to his £10m switch to Manchester City in 2010. His only year in England did not go to plan as he only made 16 Premier League appearances for City in 2010/11.

This spell came to an end that summer as he joined German giants Bayern Munich for around £12m.
Boateng’s game moved to the next level for Bayern and he has been a mainstay for them since he signed. He is now in his tenth season with the club and in that time he has made 346 appearances across all competitions.
The defender has won everything there is to win for Bayern Munich, having lifted the Bundlesiga on eight occasions. He is also a two-time winner of the Champions League and he has won the DFB-Pokal five times.
The 32-year-old has also enjoyed a brilliant international career with Germany. He has been capped 79 times since making his senior debut in 2009. He helped his side win the FIFA World Cup in 2014.
Boateng has played 17 times in the Bundesliga this term. But he is out contract at the end of the season and he is likely to leave.
German outlet Bild have reported that Chelsea are interested in signing Boateng with them looking for a regular partner for Thiago Silva at centre-back.
