Chelsea defender could hold key to €40m ‘dream’ Tuchel signing

Fikayo Tomori could hold the key to Chelsea signing AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie this summer, according to reports in Italy.

Centre-back Tomori broke into Chelsea’s first team in style last season, blasting a fine long-range strike in a 5-2 win at Wolves to announce his Premier League arrival.

The 23-year-old even went on to make his England debut last term, having caught the eye of boss Gareth Southgate, but could not maintain that upward trajectory at Stamford Bridge this season as he was loaned out to AC Milan for the rest of the season.

And now Il Milanista claims that Tomori could be used as a makeweight in any deal for Kessie this summer.

Milan have the option to sign the Chelsea defender for €28m if the loan deal goes well with Tomori so far making four appearances since his January transfer window move.

As things stand, the Rossoneri ‘does not seem to want to spend’ that amount on Tomori but they ‘could consider redeeming him’ if he ‘were to become the protagonist of top-level performances’.

Milan would want Chelsea to ‘lower their financial claims’ which is an idea that ‘does not thrill’ the Premier League club, meaning they could suggest a swap deal instead.

It is understood that new Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel ‘dreams of’ bringing Kessie to Stamford Bridge with the German boss ‘in favor’ of allowing Tomori to leave but only if Milan ‘put Franck Kessie’s card on the plate’.

Otherwise it would take a bid of around €40m to lure the Ivory Coast international away from the San Siro and the report adds that Chelsea would have ‘to put his hand to his wallet, in addition’ to Tomori.
