Chelsea defender refuses to rule out leaving this summer

Chelsea left-back Emerson has refused to rule out leaving the Londoners amid links of a move to Inter Milan or Napoli.

The defender spent three years with Roma before he joined the Blues for an undisclosed fee in January 2018.

The Italian international has struggled to establish himself as a regular for the Londoners since his move. The most he has played in a single Premier League season so far was on 15 occasions in 2019/20.

OPINION: Enjoying an international break that actually feels like a break

It has recently been reported that Chelsea have slapped a £17m price-tag on Emerson. This comes after Napoli and Inter Milan were linked with him.

The 26-year-old has told Rai Sport that he will see what happens this summer when it comes to his future:

“It’s still early to talk about the future.

“I am focused on the national team only. We’ll see what happens in June. Chelsea can go all the way in the Champions League and the FA Cup. We can win something this season.”

Earlier this month, Blues boss Thomas Tuchel admitted that he has been “unfair” with Christian Pulisic and Emerson:

“I can say nothing else but good things about [Pulisic]. Maybe his biggest problem is that I know him from Dortmund and I think he started only in the cup games.

“It is my responsibility and it is a bit unfair but I know what impact he can have in the last 20 or 30 minutes.

“He was a bit unlucky in the last few games. It isn’t a lack of trust or quality, it is just that he will have to be patient.

“I have another guy who I would love to mention in Emerson [Palmieri] who suffers from bad decisions by me.

“He does not play but he is an amazing guy who trains at the highest level and he never lets the team down with his mentality. It was a super hard decision today to have him out of the squad, the same with Tammy [Abraham].

“It is like this, we have a strong group. The guys have to keep on fighting. There’s no other way.”
