Bayern boss Flick names Chelsea trio he wanted to sign

Hansi Flick has admitted he wanted to sign three Chelsea players for Bayern Munich.

Bayern signed Leroy Sane from Manchester City, Marc Roca from Espanyol and Bouna Sarr from Marseille in the summer, but Flick admits a Blues trio were among the players on his shortlist.

Callum Hudson-Odoi was linked with a £50million move to Bayern, while the German giants were also interested in Timo Werner and Kai Havertz who moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

OPINION: Champions League winners and losers

Flick was keen on all three, as well as Sergino Dest, who Barcelona signed from Ajax last year, but says Leroy Sane was the player he wanted most.

There have been reports of a disagreement between Flick and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, but the manager has dismissed those rumours.

“It is always said that Hudson-Odoi and Dest were my desired players, but they were our desired players,” Flick told Tz (via Metro)

“We decided that we wanted to add players for the wide areas and that is what we did.

“Havertz, Werner and Sane were mentioned, I would have loved to have all three, but we all decided on Sane. He’s a player who makes a difference.”

Bayern saw off Lazio 2-1 in the second leg of their last 16 tie on Wednesday, rounding off a 6-2 aggregate win.

They could meet Chelsea in the quarter-finals with the draw set for Friday, but Thomas Tuchel claims the Blues will be feared.

“The most important is that we feel we deserve this,” Tuchel said after they beat Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge.

“The most important is that we give the feedback for the guys what they did here in terms of quality and intensity.

“It’s most important you feel it and that no one has to convince you. You need to feel it.

“They play with a special bond and performances and results like this give you a certain edge and glue to achieve special things. You can only achieve this through results and experiences.

“I’m pretty sure no one wants to play against us. It’s a super difficult challenge ahead because we are already in the last eight.

“It’s a big step, but no need to be afraid, we take what we get and prepare as best as possible.”
