Carragher says trio should stop Grealish joining Man Utd

Jamie Carragher has warned Jack Grealish not to join Manchester United this summer because of three players already at the club.

Grealish was enjoying another excellent season at Aston Villa and for England before getting injured in February.

He has six Premier League goals and ten assists this season, despite missing the last 11 through a shin problem.

The 25-year-old has consistently been linked with a move away from Villa Park, with Old Trafford tipped as a potential destination and Manchester City also said to be interested.

But Carragher claims there would be no space for Grealish at United, as Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba would all rival him for a place in the starting XI.

Carragher told Sky Sports: “I don’t think he would fit in here at Old Trafford just because of the players they’ve got, not his talent.

“They already have Pogba playing on the left now, Fernandes, Rashford likes to play on that side. I don’t think he’s a must for Manchester United, I think he’s definitely got the quality.

“I think Jack Grealish is someone who loves to run with the ball and I don’t think there’s too many players like that, I love watching him.

“I think he’s a super player, and when you run with the ball and dribble with the ball, you’re going to get people trying to take it off you.”

But Roy Keane has urged his former club to make a statement signing this summer, with either Grealish or Harry Kane the player he would go for.

He said: “United need to go and make a big, big signing, whether it’s Kane or Grealish – put a marker down.

“OK, they need another centre-half, but I still think at the top end of the pitch, when you look at some of the games this year that they’ve drawn, they’ve lacked that real bit of quality.

“They’ve got some brilliant players and I agree that there’s been progress,” Keane said. “The worry for Manchester United is the next step is the biggest and the hardest one, to go and get that league title.

“Liverpool were brilliant last year, Man City excellent this season but United are still a bit short.

“The worry for me now is that we’re looking at United and saying they’ve made progress, but look at the financial side, off the pitch at United as if the remit for Ole will be finishing in the top four, or finishing second, wanting to get into the Champions League. But it has to be about winning trophies.”
