If Tottenham are serious about winning the Premier League, they shouldn’t appoint Erik ten Hag.
That is the view of former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell.
Campbell was speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the prospect of the 51-year-old succeeding Jose Mourinho as the next permanent manager of the London club.

Ajax boss Ten Hag is now a clear favourite for the role after Julian Nagelsmann opted to succeed Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich.
Brendan Rodgers and Maurizio Sarri have also been heavily linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, Rodgers is believed to have major reservations about leaving Leicester City, while Sarri is being touted as a potential successor to the under-pressure Paulo Fonseca at Roma.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has promised a swift conclusion to the managerial hunt but Campbell says it is not an exact science as evidenced by Mourinho’s demise.
“Mourinho has the best resume of the lot and it did not work out for him at Spurs so who is to say any of these managers could be a success.”
Ten Hag has been at Ajax since December 2017 and, having won everything domestically, could be ready for a new challenge.
He is under contract at Ajax until the end of next season but ticks a lot of boxes for Levy. He is committed to front-foot football and has brought through a host of young players including Donny van de Beek, Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed on Wednesday that Spurs have contacted representatives of Ten Hag and scheduled a “direct meeting” regarding their vacant position.
Tottenham have scheduled a ‘direct meeting’ with Erik ten Hag. He’s among the candidates to become the new Spurs manager – ten Hag is open to leave Ajax in the summer. Nothing decided yet. #THFC #Spurs

However, Campbell says that while the 51-year-old boasts an impressive record in the Eredivisie, the Premier League represents a huge step up and he is not sure it is one Ten Hag can make.
“Erik ten Hag has been brilliant at Ajax but can he adapt to the Premier League? I do not know.
“It is a long shot considering the quality of the Premier League at the moment and the other managers that are here. It is a long shot.
“It would be a big step up for him to go from Ajax to Tottenham.”
