Fernandes demands Man Utd ‘commitment’ before signing new deal

Man Utd midfielder Bruno Fernandes is waiting for the club to demonstrate their ambition before signing a new deal, according to reports.

The Portugal international has transformed the Red Devils’ fortunes since arriving in Manchester from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.

Since then, Fernandes has contributed 24 goals and 17 assists in the Premier League with his latest strike coming in the Manchester derby over the weekend then Man Utd beat Man City 2-0 at the Etihad.

There had been rumours that he could be tiring after going three matches without a goal contribution but his goal against City put some of those doubts to bed.

And The Sun claim that Fernandes has ‘demanded assurances’ from the Man Utd hierarchy ‘before he commits to a new long-term deal’.

It has been reported previously that the Red Devils are keen to sign him up to new terms with The Sun saying that there is ‘a double-your-money £200,000-a-week five-year contract’ on the table.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned recently that the club is unlikely to splash loads of money in the upcoming window due to the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Even the new proposed deal will still leave him well behind the likes of David de Gea and Paul Pogba in terms of salary and Fernandes is looking for ‘commitment’ from Man Utd.

The report adds: ‘Fernandes wants to know there is a commitment in the boardroom to do what it takes to get the Red Devils back to the top at home and in Europe.’

There is surely little rush on either side to get a deal done with Fernandes still contracted at Old Trafford until 2025.
