Riyad Mahrez (PEN) and Phil Foden netted to send Man City through to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2015/16.
Dortmund took advantage of the tie in the 15th minute. The ball fell to Jude Bellingham inside the area and he found the top corner past Ederson. Kevin De Bruyne came close to equalising as he struck the crossbar before the half-hour mark.
But City regained control in the second half as Riyad Mahrez converted his penalty in the 55th minute. This was before Phil Foden put the result beyond doubt in the final 15 minutes. City will face PSG in the semi-finals.
