Bayern Munich star admits he could follow Thiago in leaving

Bayern Munich midfielder Thomas Muller has admitted that it would be “no problem” for him to leave the club before he retires.

Muller has spent his entire career with Bayern Munich. He has played just short of 600 times for the German giants since making his senior debut during the 2008/09 season.

The midfielder has been a mainstay for them since his debut. He has helped them win the Bundesliga on nine separate occasions.

Muller has won the Champions League in 2012/13 and 2019/20. He is also a six-time winner of the DFB-Pokal.

Bayern Munich are also on course to win the Bundesliga this season. They are four points clear of their nearest rivals RB Leipzig. They will also face Manchester City in the last eight of the Champions League.

Muller recently told The Times that he may end up leaving just like Thiago did last summer:

“I’m not fixed to this club. I have a special relationship, I love Bayern before I started playing for them.

“But when there is a situation where you have to decide maybe to play for a different club, it would be no shame and no problem at all.

“Maybe like with Thiago (Alcantara at Liverpool ).”

Thiago’s first season in England has been hampered with injury and Covid. But he recently insisted that it was an “easy decision” for him to join Liverpool:

“I had options to return (to Spain), but it was clear to me. Leaving Bayern was to be able to live the experience of the Premier League, a very competitive league.

“When I got the call from the coach (Jurgen Klopp) and the club, it was an easy decision to choose the destination.

“But it was difficult to choose if I really wanted to leave Bayern. In the end, it happened and I am very happy.

“It is a change of country, club, stadium and you have the expectation not only of seeing the fans in the stadium, and it will be beautiful to see Anfield full, but also the experience of learning day by day about this new country.”
