Eric Bailly has “had enough” at Manchester United as he feels like he will never be first choice under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to reports.
The defender joined the Red Devils in June 2016 from Villarreal. He made the move to the Premier League for a fee believed to be around £30m.
Since his transfer to England, Bailly has played 100 times for Man United across all competitions.
OPINION: Do Man Utd need a trophy? Of course they sodding do…
The centre-back totted up 38 appearances during his debut season at Old Trafford. But he has only been able to be a bit-part player for United since then.
He has struggled with injures as the most he has played in a single term since then is 18 games both in 2017/18 and 2018/19.
It has been revealed that Man United are ready to offer Bailly a new contract. But the defender is set to “snub” them with first-team opportunities hard to come by.
A source close to the club told Sky Sports, as cited by The Daily Mail that Bailly believes he is too good to just sit on the bench:
“Eric loves the club and the fans, his family are settled in Manchester. He’d like nothing more than to spend the rest of his career at Old Trafford.
“But he feels the club has been very disrespectful towards him and frankly he’s had enough.
“He feels that no matter what he does, he will never be first choice for Ole. He now realises he’s too good and too young to spend his time sitting on the bench.”
The defender recently appeared on Guillem Balague’s Pure Football Podcast and he suggested that Solskjaer gives him important advice:
“I always play at my maximum and he’ll (Solskjaer) say to me, “Eric, you’re an aggressive player, the forwards don’t like this aggression”. He’s been a forward, so he knows.
“There are many important bits of advice he gives to a centre back, a lot to take on. We learn from him, how to influence the forward, where to be.
“He gives us a lot with advice about that. When to make interceptions, the centre-backs need to be close to the forwards, especially a true striker, little details he tells us.”
