Aubameyang tweets odd final rant before deactivating account

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has deactivated his Twitter account after an impassioned final tweet in which he criticised the masses for not talking about Covid, online abuse or racism amid the Super League furore.

The striker, who is currently recovering having contracting malaria and has missed Arsenal’s last three games, deactivated his account on Tuesday, insisting he “ain’t missed you Twitter”.

Aubameyang took issue with the lack of talk on issues beyond the Super League – which has drawn focus away from everything else in the last few days – in an odd final rant.

In full, Aubameyang posted: “I ain’t missed you Twitter. So we not allowed to talk about anything?

“Only football and Super League? No more talking about Covid?! Or online abuse or racism. Nice. Even Sick (without fone) I was feeling better than now with fone.

“Let me turn it off. See u.”

His decision to remove his Twitter account comes less than a week after Aubameyang confirmed on his Instagram account he had been hospitalised with malaria.

Aubameyang told his 10 million followers: “Hey guys, thanks for all the messages and calls. Unfortunately I contracted Malaria whilst being on national team duty in Gabon a few weeks ago.

“I’ve spent a few days in hospital this week but I’m already feeling much better every day, thanks to the great doctors that detected and treated the virus so quickly.

“I wasn’t feeling myself the last couple of weeks but will be back stronger than ever soon!”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is hopefully his captain will make a full recovery soon, to play his part in the end of the season, in which the Gunners are targeting the Europa League trophy.

“He’s completely fine, we’ll see how he recovers,” Arteta said last Friday. “He wants to be back as soon as possible — that’s what he said to me.”

Arsenal’s next game is at home to Everton on Friday night in the Premier League before a huge Europa League semi-final tie against Villarreal – and former boss Unai Emery.
