Arsenal outcast insists he still has a future at the club

Arsenal outcast Matteo Guendouzi has claimed that he still has a future with the club, but he has admitted that this summer will be “decisive” for him.

The midfielder joined French giants PSG when he was just six years old. He spent nine years there before he left to join their Ligue 1 rivals Lorient.

It was there where Guendouzi made his senior debut. His first league outing for them came in October 2016 against Nantes.

The Frenchman made eight Ligue 1 appearances as they were relegated in 2016/17. He played 21 times for them the season after as Lorient narrowly missed out on promotion back to the French top flight.

Guendouzi signed for Arsenal in July 2018 for a fee believed to be around £7m. He immediately inserted himself as a regular for his new side. He played 48 times for the Gunners in his debut season.

The youngster figured less last term, but he still totted up 34 appearances across all competitions. This includes 24 outings in the Premier League.

His spell at Arsenal has been marred with issues about his attitude, which led to his loan move to Hertha Berlin last summer. He has played 13 times for the German outfit this season.

Guendouzi recently told France Football that he will “discuss” his future this summer:

“No [my Arsenal career is not over], not at all. Now, I am focused on my season with Hertha Berlin.

“Next, we will have a sit down with my entourage and people at the club to think and discuss the future. I am still an Arsenal player. This summer will be a decisive moment.”

Guendouzi’s contract with Arsenal expires at the end of the 2021/22, but he insisted that he has every chance of playing for the club again:

He added: “Yes, of course. I belong to Arsenal for another year (until June 2022).

“I am here [at Hertha Berlin] to improve. From the moment that I am playing for Arsenal, I will give everything for this club, for the fans, for the team, for the staff.

“I will work hard for the shirt as I have always done.”
