Arsenal loanee Odegaard set to push for permanent move from Real

Martin Odegaard has only recently moved to Arsenal on loan, but speculation about his long term future is almost constant.

The midfielder made his Premier League debut during the 0-0 draw against Man Utd.

He looks set to provide Arsenal with more creativity going forward, rivalling Emile Smith-Rowe for a place in the team.

It’s not yet clear whether the Gunners will make his loan switch permanent in the summer.

But according to Eurosport, Odegaard will push for a permanent move if Zinedine Zidane remains in charge of Real past this season.

Zidane has failed to give the player regular first team opportunities at the Bernabeu.

He’s had to gain experience elsewhere, most recently during a stint with Real Sociedad.

The relationship between Odegaard and Zidane is thought to be strained. His future could now be in the Premier League.

Odegaard isn’t the only youngster whose development has been stifled by Zidane. Exciting defender Achraf Hakimi secured a move to Inter Milan after receiving limited opportunities in Spain.

When asked about the potential for a long term deal, Mikel Arteta said recently: “He certainly has all the qualities and characteristics that we are looking for for that position.

“Then it will be down to two things.

“First of all, how well he adapts here and how much of an impact he can have in our team.

“Secondly, what Real Madrid and the player think about it because he’s owned by Real Madrid and the player has a big say in that too.”

Zidane’s future is not certain, however. The French manager is under pressure with Real sat ten points behind rivals Atletico in La Liga.

They’re third in the table, with Catalan giants Barcelona also trailing Diego Simeone’s men.

Champions League glory could be vital for Zidane to save his job. His situation looks set to determine the future of Gunners loanee Odegaard.
