Carlo Ancelotti has claimed that it would be “fantastic” if Everton can finish in the top four, but he will be satisfied with a place in the top six.
The Italian has done a great job at Goodison Park since taking over in December 2019. He has won 28 of his 55 games in charge.
A strong summer on the transfer front set them up well for what has been a really impressive season so far.
Ten PL things that wouldn’t have happened with fans present
Ahead of Monday’s game in Chelsea, they sat in fifth place in the Premier League with games in hand on the teams around them. But Thomas Tuchel’s side were dominant at Stamford Bridge, going onto win 2-0.
West Ham won later that day so they leapfrogged the Toffees in the table. Ancelotti’s side are still in a strong position as they are four points behind Chelsea with a game in hand.
Speaking after Monday’s loss, as cited by the Liverpool Echo, Ancelotti insisted that he is focused on the “important” games to come in the next few weeks:
“Our target is to be in Europe. If we are to be in the top four, it will be fantastic. But our target is to be in the top six, top seven to play in Europe next season.
“We lost against Chelsea, that is a team better than us, and we are surprised to be only four points, and with a game in hand, behind them.
“This is what the table says and we have to be focused on the next games. These are the important games, the ones that are coming.”
