Sam Allardyce has suggested that West Brom will “keep going to the end” after their 1-1 draw against Wolves edged them closer to relegation.
Monday night’s Black Country derby was a must-win for West Brom. A win would have moved them to within eight points of Newcastle with four games to go to keep their slim survival hopes alive.
Mbaye Diagne saw his effort cleared off the line in the 42nd minute before Wolves took the lead in stoppage time. Fabio Silva’s deflected effort looped over Sam Johnstone and into the net.

Mbaye did get his goal in the second half as he converted Conor Townsend’s cross. It finished 1-1 though which is a result really not good enough for the Baggies.
This result means that even if Allardyce’s side win their last four games, Newcastle and Burnley would still only need one victory to be safe.
Speaking post-match, as cited by BBC Sport, Allardyce said this draw makes life “even more difficult” for his side:
“You can’t miss chances like that, in the position we are in. The two chances in the second half, only the keeper to beat, is a big miss for us and makes life that even more difficult. We can only hope all the others lose above us and we win all four games. That extra two points would have given us a little bit more.
“We are dedicated professionals, have had a really good run of form. One thing we are missing and that is wins and converting chances. We got so near, yet so far away. We have to keep going to the end and we have to believe.”
West Brom defender Kyle Bartley said post-match that they had “enough chances” to beat Wolves:
“We need three points. The players should be proud of themselves – we kept going towards the end.
“We had enough chances to win the game. We came out second half and showed character and spirit.
“They surprised us with changing their formation so the manager thought we didn’t need five at the back. We looked better when we changed.
“Until it’s mathematically not possible we’ll keep going.”
