Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is preparing a huge offer for Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku if he misses out on top target Erling Haaland, according to reports in Italy.
The Blues splashed out £47.5m on Timo Werner in the summer transfer window but the Germany international has failed to hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge, scoring five Premier League goals in 29 appearances.
Tammy Abraham, who has struggled with injury at times this season, has added six goals in 20 matches, while 34-year-old Olivier Giroud has contributed another four in 14 matches.

A lack of a clinical striker has seen Chelsea linked with Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero – who will leave the Premier League club at the end of the season – and Borussia Dortmund’s Haaland.
Haaland is wanted by numerous clubs around Europe with Dortmund reportedly sanctioning a series of meetings with La Liga and Premier League clubs last week.
And Calciomercato claims that Haaland is ‘at the top of Abramovich’s shortlist’ with former Chelsea and Manchester United striker Lukaku ‘in second place’.
It is said that Manchester City already ‘made an attempt last summer’ to sign Lukaku from Inter Milan and that Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman ‘would like to retrain Romelu after the happy experience in common at Everton’.
However, the Catalan giants ‘does not have the economic strength’ currently to meet Inter’s demands for Lukaku, who has scored 60 goals in just 86 appearances for the Nerazzurri.
The report adds that money would not be a problem for Chelsea with the Premier League outfit ‘ready to take concrete action on the Belgian striker, with an idea of an offer of more than 100 million euros.’
Antonio Conte and Inter are keen to keep Lukaku and Calciomercato ends its report by saying: ‘The feeling is that any type of assault will be rejected with force.’
That comes after a report last Friday claimed that Inter had slapped a €120m (£102m) price tag on Lukaku after being told that ‘by June it is necessary to sell one or two top players’.
Despite their financial issues, the Serie A side want to hang onto their prized asset and their valuation reflects that.
