Report: Leeds reignite interest in signing £45k-per-week star from PL rival club – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Leeds United have reignited interested in signing Daniel James from Manchester United, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
James, who is on £45k-per-week wages at United, was very close to joining Leeds when they were in the Championship.
The deal didn’t materialise in the end, and James went on to join Manchester United. However, Marcelo Bielsa remains a keen admirer of the Welsh winger, and the Whites could make a move for him this summer.
The signings of Junior Firpo (£13m) and Jack Harrison’s (£11.5m) show that Leeds are ready to spend money in order to keep their place in the top flight.
The 23-year-old has a contract at the club till 2024, and it is highly unlikely that United would offload him permanently unless they receive a massive offer.
Leeds can expect to sign him on loan. James has only shown flashes of brilliance during his time at Old Trafford, and he could struggle to get regular games with United signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund this summer on a big-money deal.
However, with Marcus Rashford out injured, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may not be willing to send James out on loan this summer.
Leeds are focussing on signing a midfielder this summer after failing to sign Connor Gallagher on loan. The Whites are reportedly keen to land Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien, with recent reports claiming that Bielsa has personally watched the player last week.
