The player has now sent out a farewell message to his former club and the fans on social media.
Grealish tweeted that captaining Villa has been a privilege and an honour for him and he enjoyed getting the club promoted from the Championship to the Premier League.
The midfielder also added that he has spent 19 years at the West Midlands club and he will be a fan for life.
Grealish also claimed that this is an exciting time to support Aston Villa because of the talented squad at Dean Smith’s disposal and the exciting new signings coming through this summer.
Villa have signed the likes of Emiliano Buendia, Ashley Young, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings in the transfer market so far and they have been linked with the likes of James Ward-Prowse, Axel Tuanzebe and Tammy Abraham as well.
The 25-year-old midfielder was an outstanding player for Aston Villa during his time at the club and it remains to be seen whether the Premier League side can replace him adequately.
Some of the Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on the farewell message from Grealish and here is what they had to say.
Best player we’ve ever had.
We understand this is something you have to do and a true fan wouldn’t begrudge you that.
All the best, Jack.

“I’ll always be a fan” fans don’t swap allegiances for trophies. We thought you were living out our dreams for us each week. I will NEVER understand your decision and I will NEVER forgive you. You’re not welcome back “next time”. UTV

You literally cannot love the club with all your heart though. This statement should be seen through the lens of the one you made last summer telling us ‘you believed in the project’ and ‘my club’ All said with your fingers crossed. You have turned your back on us. We’ll move on
