Everton have informed 49-cap international’s agent that they want to sign him – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Everton are looking to improve defensively this summer and they have identified the Netherlands international Stefan de Vrij as a target.
According to reports via Sportwitness, the Toffees have already informed his agent Mino Raiola that they are keen on a summer transfer.
The Premier League side have excellent relations with the Italian agent and they have opened initial discussions regarding a potential move.
Apparently Italian champions Inter Milan are unwilling to sell the player this summer but their financial situation could tempt them into selling the experienced center-back should a lucrative offer come in.
The Italian champions have already sold Achraf Hakimi to Paris Saint-Germain in order to balance their books earlier in the summer.
De Vrij was a key player for Inter Milan last season and he helped them win the Scudetto after eleven years. Losing him and Hakimi in a single summer would be a major blow for the Italian outfit.
As for Everton, they will have to tighten up at the back if they want to push for European qualification next season.
The 49-cap Dutch international will be an upgrade on the likes of Michael Keane and Yerry Mina.
The Colombian, in particular, has been quite injury-prone since his move to Goodison Park and Rafael Benitez must look to bring in a more reliable defender before the transfer window shuts.
De Vrij could form a quality partnership alongside Ben Godfrey and the 29-year-old could be a mentor to the young defender as well.
