Tottenham have submitted a big money bid for Juventus defender Cristian Romero according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.

Central defence is clearly an area where Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo needs to strengthen.

Toby Alderweireld could be on his way out of North London this summer whilst the jury is still out on Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon.

Tottenham conceded 45 goals last season and that ended up costing them a chance of finishing inside the top four.

It seems as though Nuno and Fabio Paratici are already desperately trying to address that issue.

Cristian Romero bid lodged

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Spurs have submitted a €40 million (£34 million) plus €10 million (£8 million) in add-ons bid for the 23-year-old Juve ace.

The Old lady are allegedly holding out for closer to €55 million (£47 million) in one hit, however.

Tottenham should just go all out for the Argentina international. He is an incredibly talented central defender and would add so much to Nuno’s side.

In 31 Serie A outings during a loan spell with Atalanta last season, Romero averaged two tackles, 3.1 interceptions and 2.2 clearances per game. He also won an average of 3.6 aerial duels per match during those appearances.

The South American is very comfortable with the ball at his feet as well. He made 42.2 passes per game on average and recorded a very impressive completion rate of 86.2%.

If Juventus really want £47 million, Tottenham just need to pay it. The official Juventus website described the Argentinian ace as a ‘stunning’ defender.
