Conor Gallagher

Leeds United have made an approach to sign Conor Gallagher on loan this summer, according to reports from The Athletic.

The Whites confirmed the signing of Lewis Bate yesterday, but the youngster is expected to be a part of the Under-23 side.

The Yorkshire club are looking to sign a central midfielder this summer who will be used as a backup option for Kalvin Phillips, and Gallagher has been earmarked as the perfect option for that role.

The report claims that the Whites have made an approach to sign the 21-year-old midfielder on loan from Chelsea. He will be registered for their senior squad.

Interestingly, The Athletic claim that Gallagher has been tracked by Leeds “throughout the summer”, so it gives the impression of a well-planned move.

They have pitched the transfer to him already and want to wrap up the deal before the start of the new Premier League season.

The Whites could face competition from Premier League rivals, Crystal Palace, who are equally serious about landing him.

Gallagher is a highly-rated young talent who spent last season at West Bromwich Albion on loan from Chelsea. The Blues are ready to sanction another temporary move for him in this window.

He made 28 league starts for last season for the Baggies, and Leeds consider him a good fit under Marcelo Bielsa.

Although he is not in immediate plans of Thomas Tuchel, the Blues do not want to consider a permanent bid for Gallagher.

Leeds have already signed £13m left-back Junior Firpo from Barcelona, and have secured the signing of Jack Harrison on a permanent deal.
