Leeds are reportedly in advanced talks to sign 20-yr-old target – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Leeds United are keen on signing the Valerenga goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson this summer.
According to Football Insider, the Premier League side are currently in advanced talks to sign the 20-year-old as a replacement for Kiko Casilla.
The report adds that discussions are currently progressing well regarding a summer transfer and the young goalkeeper could become Leeds’s third first-team signing of the summer.
Klaesson has just one year left on his current deal and Valerenga will be under pressure to sell him for a reasonable fee this summer. The 20-year-old made 14 appearances in the Eliteserien last season.
French goalkeeper Illan Meslier is currently the number one at the Premier League club and Klaesson is expected to push him for the starting berth next year. The increased competition for places will help both youngsters improve.
The Norwegian goalkeeper is highly rated across Europe and he has a massive future ahead of him. There is no doubt that he could develop into a top-class keeper for Leeds in the coming years.
If the youngster manages to fulfill his potential with Leeds, his signing could look like a bargain in the future.
Marcelo Bielsa has done well to nurture the young players since taking over at Leeds and Klaesson will be hoping to continue his development under the management of the Argentine.
Leeds cannot hope to go into the next season with just one recognized goalkeeper and therefore the signing of Klaesson makes complete sense for the Whites.
Initially, the Premier League side wanted to sign Freddie Woodman from Newcastle United. However, the deal for the Newcastle keeper never materialized.
