Celtic looking to sign 24-yr-old from Premier League giants this summer – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Celtic are interested in signing the Manchester City defender Ko Itakura this summer.
According to Daily Record, Ange Postecoglou is looking to sign the Japanese international on a loan deal but the Premier League side are reportedly looking for a hefty loan fee.
The Hoops have already improved their centre back department with the signing of Carl Starfelt from Rubin Kazan.
However, they will need to add more quality and depth at the back in order to challenge for the title next year.
Star defender Kristoffer Ajer has joined Brentford and Postecoglou will have to bring in quality reinforcements.
Itakura is currently away on international duty at the Olympics and his future is unlikely to be sorted anytime soon.
The 24-year-old defender was on loan at Groningen last season and he was quite impressive for the Dutch outfit.
Postecoglou is looking to improve his full-back department as well and the Sheffield United defender George Baldock has been mentioned as a key target.
Itakura is unlikely to get regular playing time at Manchester City and therefore another loan move would be ideal for the player’s development.
The defender needs to play regularly in order to improve and fulfill his potential. A move to Celtic would be ideal for the player in theory and regular game time at the Scottish club could see him return to Manchester City next season as an improved player.
