Report: Spurs are in advanced talks to sign £13.8m int’l this summer – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Tottenham Hotspur are in advanced talks to sign Atalanta defender Cristian Romero, according to reports from Football London.
The report also claim that Spurs are also in talks to sign goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini from the same Serie A club.
Spurs are looking to bolster their defence this summer, with the new managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, keen to bring in a new centre-back to boost Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.
The north London club have been heavily linked with a host of defenders this summer, with Lyon’s Joachim Andersen and Sevilla’s Jules Kounde being targeted.
However, it seems, Spurs are now looking to broker a deal for Romero, a player Paratici signed previously for Juventus from Genoa in 2019.
Last September, the 23-year-old signed a two-year loan deal with Atalanta, who have the option to buy the player for €16million (£13.8m).
Atalanta will exercise their option to sign the Argentine defender. However, Paratici is now in negotiation with the Italian side to sell to Tottenham for a generous profit.
Romero played a key part for Atalanta last season and won the Copa America with Argentina who defeated Brazil in the final.
Toby Alderweireld has informed the club that he wants to leave this summer. The futures of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez are also far from certain.
Romero is a leader at the back and his versatility would also boost Espirito Santo’s side.
Spurs are also looking to sign a new goalkeeper, and they are in advanced talks to sign Gollini ahead of the new Premier League season.
