West Ham are close to finalizing the transfer of 28-yr-old this summer – originally posted on Sportslens.com
West Ham United are thought to be closing in on the French goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper was on loan at Fulham last season and he managed to impress with the London club despite their relegation.
According to The Athletic, the Londoners are looking to finalise an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain. Areola is expected to join the club on loan with an option to buy.
The Hammers tried to sign Sam Johnstone from West Bromwich Albion but the Championship side turned down their bid for the 28-year-old. Areola has now been identified as the alternative target.
PSG have Gianluigi Donnarumma and Keylor Navas at their disposal and the Frenchman is unlikely to get any game time at the French club next season.
A move away from the capital club would be ideal for his future and he could be the long term replacement for Lukasz Fabianski at West Ham.
Areola needs to play regularly at this stage of his career if he wants to be the first-choice goalkeeper for the national team.
The Hammers will be able to provide him with European football as well and the Frenchman is likely to be tempted to join the Londoners in the coming weeks.
Areola knows the Premier League well and he could make an immediate impact for David Moyes’ side next season.
