Report confirms West Ham offer for 28-yr-old, Spurs keen on the player as well – originally posted on Sportslens.com

West Ham United have submitted a bid for the West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

According to The Athletic, the Hammers wants to sign the 28-year-old as a potential replacement for Lukasz Fabianski but the Baggies have turned the offer down.

Apparently, West Brom are looking for a fee in excess of £10 million for the goalkeeper and Tottenham Hotspur are currently monitoring his situation as well.

Spurs will need to sign a quality long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris soon and Johnstone is thought to be on their wish list.

West Brom have been relegated to the Championship and a player of Johnstone’s calibre will want to play in the Premier League regularly.

It is fair to assume that the 28-year-old will be keen on a move away from the Baggies this summer. He needs to play regularly in the Premier League in order to push for a starting berth for England.

A move to West Ham or Spurs could be ideal for the player. The Hammers will be able to offer the player Europa League football next season.

Johnstone has a contract with West Brom until the summer of 2022 and the Baggies will be under pressure to sell him in the coming months.

If West Brom refuse to sell him for a reasonable price this summer, they will lose him on a free transfer next year.

Meanwhile, the Hammers are keen on Alphonse Areola as well.
