Celtic linked with a move for 24-yr-old who impressed in the Championship last season – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is apparently a target for Celtic this summer.
According to the Chronicle, Leeds United tried to sign the player earlier this week as well.
The 24-year-old was on loan at Swansea for the last two seasons and he was quite impressive for the Welsh outfit.
Woodman will want to push for the starting berth at Newcastle now but he is aware of the fact that Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow are all ahead of him in the pecking order.
The player might have to consider leaving Newcastle in order to play regularly next season.
A move to Celtic seems ideal in theory but the Scottish giants are yet to come forward with a concrete offer for the player.
The interest from Leeds makes sense because the Whites will need to bring in a replacement for Kiko Casilla who joined Elche this summer.
Celtic have Scott Bain and Vasilios Barkas at their disposal but neither keeper managed to impress last season. They could use someone like Woodman to increase the competition for places and add more quality to the position.
The 24-year-old will have to make a decision regarding his future soon.
The report from Chronicle adds that England manager Gareth Southgate has urged Woodman to play regular senior football if he wants to earn an England cap in the future.
At Celtic, he is likely to have more chance of playing regularly as opposed to Leeds or Newcastle. Furthermore, he has played in Scotland before with Kilmarnock and Aberdeen. He could settle in quickly and made an immediate impact for Celtic next season.
