Celtic keen on versatile Frenchman who will be available for just £4m this summer – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Celtic are keen on improving their defensive options this summer and they have identified the Rennes full-back Brandon Soppy as a summer target.
According to Daily Record, the 19-year-old defender is at the top of Celtic’s transfer wishlist this summer and the player could be available for a cut-price deal because of his contract situation.
Soppy has just one year left on his current deal and Rennes will want to cash in on the player now instead of losing him on a free transfer next year. The defender is likely to cost around £4 million.
The Hoops could definitely use some defensive reinforcements and the youngster could prove to be a quality long-term investment for them.
Soppy has the potential to develop into a quality starter for Celtic and the asking price could prove to be a bargain in the long run. He can operate as a centre back as well and his versatility will be useful.
The defence has been an area of concern for Celtic this past season and newly appointed manager Ange Postecoglou will have to improve his back four before the start of the new season.
The Hoops will take on FC Midtjylland in the Champions League qualifying first leg next week and it remains to be seen whether the Scottish outfit could bring in a couple of signings before that game.
Celtic have been linked with a move for the Tottenham youngster Cameron Carter-Vickers and the American defender will be available for a fee of around £5 million this summer.
