Celtic are thought to be interested in signing the Liverpool defender Ben Davies.

According to Daily Mail, Liverpool are hoping to sell the defender for a significant profit but the Hoops are keen on signing the player on a season-long loan deal along with championship outfit Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old centre back joined the Reds for a fee of around £2 million in January but he has failed to break into the first team line-up so far.

The former Preston defender was brought in to cope with Liverpool’s injury crisis, but he has not played a single game for the Premier League giants.

With the likes of Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk returning from their injury layoffs, the 25-year-old is expected to slip further down the pecking order at Anfield and a move away from the Merseyside club could be ideal for him.

Davies needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and Celtic could be a superb move for him.

It is highly unlikely that Davies will get first-team opportunities at Anfield next season and he needs to think about his career and development now.

The Scottish giants need to improve their defence this summer and the likes of Kristoffer Ajer have been linked with a move away from Parkhead.

Davies could prove to be a solid bargain signing for the Hoops.

The 25-year-old defender is reportedly a long term target for Celtic and they wanted to sign him back in January as well.
