Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with a move for the Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu in recent weeks.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Londoners are still working to sign the 22 year old defender and their opening bid of around €18 million is still on the table.

Apparently, the Italian club are holding out for a fee of around €20-25 million and negotiations are ongoing between the two clubs.

Romano further claims that the player wants to move to Tottenham this summer.

Meanwhile, Tuttosport (via Sportwitness) have come up with an update regarding the 22-year-old’s situation and they are claiming that Spurs could raise their offer to €20 million after their initial bid was turned down.

The likes of Manchester United and West Ham United have been linked with the player as well but it seems that Tottenham are the frontrunners.

It is no secret that Tottenham will have to improve the defensive unit this summer and Tomiyasu could prove to be a quality long-term addition.

The 22-year-old defender can operate as a full-back as well as a centre back and his versatility could prove to be an added bonus during injuries and rotation.

The likes of Serge Aurier, Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld have all been linked with a move away from the London club this summer and Nuno Espirito Santo might have to bring in more than one new addition for his defence.
