Granit Xhaka will be making a good decision to join AS Roma – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Granit Xhaka is close to completing a transfer from Arsenal to AS Roma, according to Italian outlet Sport Mediaset.
The 28-year-old is currently on duty with the Swiss national team at Euro 2020 where he and his country are currently preparing for the quarter-finals.
The Swiss have been impressive in the continental competition and managed to eliminate pre-tournament favourites France on penalties in the last 16 earlier this week.
A move away from Arsenal and to Roma will be good for Xhaka at this stage of his career. He is now 28-years old and at the prime of his powers. Arsenal finished the Premier League in eighth place last season, missing out on any form of European football.
The process to rebuild Arsenal into a side that can challenge European football, let alone win titles looks set to take years. Some have speculated that they may be consigned to mid-table status going forward.
Roma did finish seventh last season in the Serie A but they have a good chance to establish themselves as Italian surprise packages next season under Jose Mourinho.
Without the presence of title-winning coach Antonio Conte and with the departures of a few key players, defending Serie A champions Inter Milan may not be as strong as they were last season.
Traditional Italian giants Juventus are currently on a phase of rebuilding after finishing fourth in the league last season and sacking Andrea Pirlo.
While Roma will not be expected to win the Italian top-flight next season, winning Champions League status will be an aim of theirs. And as things stand right now, attaining Champions league status with Roma in the Serie A next season looks far more likely than attaining it with Arsenal in the Premier League.
