‘A worrying sign’ – Some NUFC fans react after hearing Mike Ashley won’t pay up for 27-yr-old – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Newcastle United have been linked with a move for the Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina.
The 27-year-old was on loan at Fulham this past season and Southampton are prepared to sell him permanently for a fee of around £4 million.
According to Daily Mail, Mike Ashley is reluctant to pay the asking price for the 27-year-old midfielder and the Magpies are instead keen on offering other players in exchange for Lemina.
It appears that Southampton have no interest in a swap deal.
The report from Daily Mail further states that Lemina is Newcastle’s number one midfield target this summer and the Magpies are looking at the likes of Joe Willock and William Saliba as well.
Lemina is well settled in the Premier League and he could make an immediate impact at St. James park if he joins Newcastle next season.
The Magpies could definitely use someone like him in their midfield and the 27-year-old could prove to be an upgrade on the likes of Jonjo Shelvey. The combative box-to-box midfielder will add drive, technique and creativity to the side.
Some of the Newcastle fans seem disappointed with the fact that Ashley is unwilling to pay a reasonable asking price for their midfield target and here is what they had to say on Twitter earlier.
If he won’t pay 4m for a 27 yr old then may as well all go home now. I get not blowing loads on players with no resale value but £4m!

If this is true, it’s a worrying sign of what’s to come should the takeover battle end in defeat.
MA reverting back to his old policy, yet this time not even sanctioning what would be a bargain – highlighting how little there’d be to spend!
He cost Southampton £18m in 2017…
