Club chief suggests how much it would cost to sign midfielder after Tottenham made contact – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Mikkel Damsgaard has impressed heavily in the Euro championships for Denmark.
The 20-year-old wasn’t meant to play a big role though. He was brought into the Danish starting line-up following Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest and shock collapse in the first game against Finland.
Damsgaard impressed heavily in the defeat against Belgium and produced a virtuoso performance against Russia, where he scored a wonder goal from the edge of the area that sent them through to the knockouts.
Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing the highly-rated attacking midfielder while Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur are keen as well.
According to reports from the Daily Mail, Sampdoria are keen to create a bidding war between the Catalans, Juventus and Tottenham.
Last week, journalist Ekrem Konur claimed that Tottenham have already contacted the Italian club regarding a transfer.
He was superb for Sampdoria last season, scoring two goals and registering four assists.
Damsgaard can play multiple roles across the midfield and has the potential to develop into a top-class player in future.
He has a contract with Sampdoria until 2024, and the Italian club are now demanding a premium fee for him, especially after his brilliant performances in Euro 2020.
His price is rapidly increasing with every passing week. Last week, Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero revealed it would take a fee of £27m to sign Damsgaard.
Now, he has said that the amount has almost doubled. Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Ferrero said:
“I don’t know how much he is worth because he’s not for sale. We’ll think about when his value will have reached €50m. Now, I want him to make him grow some more”.
Spurs, who are still without a manager, will now find it very hard to lure him to the north London club.
