Real Madrid are prepared to show patience in the pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe, Mundo Deportivo reports.

The Frenchman had a superb 2020/21 campaign for Les Parisiens, registering a stunning 42 goals and 11 assists from 47 appearances.

Despite his efforts, the club were beaten by Lille to the Ligue 1 title while they were eliminated in the Champions League semi-final.

Mbappe has another 12 months left on his contract, and he has yet to give the green light over a possible extension with the club.

Madrid are keeping a close eye on the situation but don’t want to anger Les Parisiens by making a formal approach for the player.

They are prepared to wait for Mbappe to make a public statement over his future and give signs that he wants to join them this summer.

Mbappe has shown great understanding with Karim Benzema at the European Championships while operating from the left wing.

Los Blancos would want to continue the link up at club level, but their chances are bright with Mbappe’s ongoing contract stand-off with Les Parisiens.

Les Parisiens’ president Nasser Al-Khelaifi recently made a bold statement that the club will ‘never sell’ Mbappe, and the forward will stay next season.

Their hands could be forced in the coming weeks if Mbappe shows no desire in extending his stay beyond the 2021/22 campaign.

He is currently valued at €160 million by Transfermarkt. Les Parisiens may have to accept a lesser fee with Mbappe’s contract situation.

Still, not many clubs across Europe have the financial backing to pay the asking price.  Manchester City could be in the mix for the World Cup winner.

However, it is well known that Mbappe is a boyhood Madrid fan, and they would be the first preference for him if he were to leave Parc des Princes.
