West Ham and Leeds United are set to miss out on Romain Perraud.

According to reports from The Athletic, both Leeds and West Ham had been chasing the 23-year-old defender this summer.

Premier League outfit Newcastle United were also in the hunt for his signature.

However, Southampton are now closing in on the signing of the Stade Brest defender.

The deal is at an advanced stage at the moment and the only way the move can fall through is if the player’s medical isn’t satisfactory or if another team makes a late attempt and hijack the deal.

So unless Leeds or West Ham come up with a tempting bid now to change the player’s mind, he will join the south-coast side.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has met with the left-back and it’s understood that Perraud has made it clear to him that he wants to join the Saints.

Leeds would be looking to sign a new left-back this summer, with the future of Ezgjan Alioski is in doubt. He will be a free agent in the summer, and the Macedonian is yet to pen a new deal at the club.

The Hammers are also keen to sign a new left-back, with David Moyes looking to sign a long-term replacement of 31-year-old Aaron Creswell.

Perraud will become the club’s second signing of the summer if the deal goes through.

The Saints have already signed Theo Walcott, after his loan move was into a permanent one, with the former Arsenal forward signing a two-year contract.
