Manager informs friends that he is ready to take over at Everton this summer – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has been linked with a move to Everton this summer.
There has been a major backlash from the Everton fans ever since the 61-year-old has been linked with the Goodison job but it appears that Benitez is willing to take over at the Merseyside club despite the protests from the fans.
According to Football Insider, the manager was initially reluctant to take over because of the stance of the supporters but he has now informed his friends that he is ready to accept the offer from the Premier League club.
The Spaniard’s history with Liverpool and his previous comments regarding Everton have turned the fanbase against him. The 61-year-old once labelled Everton as a small club because of their defensive playing style.
Benitez is currently without a job and he would be an inexpensive appointment for the Toffees.
The Spaniard has proven himself across multiple leagues throughout his career and he could be a quality short term option for Everton.
He will help rebuild the side while keeping them competitive. Furthermore, Everton struggled defensively last season and he could sort out that problem for them. The 61-year-old is excellent at organising defensive setups and he could fix a major weakness for the Toffees.
Also, Benitez is used to working with limited resources and his teams tend to punch above their weight. On paper, he seems like an ideal appointment for Everton.
