A selection of Manchester United fans on Twitter were delighted for Edinson Cavani, who was on the scoresheet in Uruguay’s 2-0 win over Bolivia at Copa America.

The 34-year-old was in stunning form during the final months of last season for United. He finished the campaign with 17 goals across all competitions.

Cavani recently went five international games without finding the back of the net, and he ended the run with a close-range goal in the 79th minute against Bolivia.

He also induced the own goal from Jairo Quinteros prior to half-time, and some of the club’s supporters were pleased with his performance.

Twitter reactions:

With his goal last night, Cavani eclipsed Thierry Henry’s international record for France. He bagged his 52nd goal for his national team from his 121st cap.

He is still far off from the all-time record for his country held by compatriot Luis Suarez. Suarez, who partnered him against Bolivia, has 64 goals to his name.

Uruguay finish their group stage campaign against Paraguay on Monday. Cavani has the chance to go level with Wayne Rooney’s goal tally for England.

Oscar Tabarez’s side are currently fourth in Group A with four points, and they are almost guaranteed their quarter-final spot in the competition.

They will hope to climb further up the table. A fourth-place finish would see them come up against tournament favourites Brazil in the next round.
