Report suggests West Ham are in pole position to sign 35-goal star this summer – originally posted on Sportslens.com
West Ham United are interested in signing Paul Onuachu this summer.
The Nigerian international has been in excellent form for Genk this past season and he could prove to be a quality attacking option for the Hammers next year.
The 27-year-old striker scored 35 goals and picked up five assists in 41 appearances across all competitions last season and the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion are keen on signing the player as well.
According to Own goal Nigeria, the striker is set to cost £26 million this summer and the two Premier League clubs should be able to afford him.
The report further states that the Hammers are in pole position to sign the Genk striker this summer. West Ham will be able to offer him European football next year and that should give them an edge in the transfer chase.
SL View: Much needed attacking option for both clubs
It is no secret that the Hammers will have to bring in a quality number nine this summer and Onuachu would be an upgrade on the likes of Michail Antonio.
He is a natural goal scorer and he could take the West Ham attack to a whole new level next year.
Meanwhile, Brighton struggled with their finishing last season. Graham Potter’s side managed to create a reasonable number of chances but poor finishing let them down in the end.
Signing a quality striker could transform their side next year and Onuachu would be a superb addition.
