Report suggests West Ham are plotting a summer swoop for 24-yr-old La Liga player – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Barcelona defender Junior Firpo has been linked with a move away from the Spanish club this summer and Southampton and West Ham United are thought to be weighing up a potential swoop for the left-back.
According to Mundo Deportivo (via Sportwitness), the Premier League sides are prepared to pay up for the defender this summer and they could have an edge in the transfer chase.
Apparently, clubs from Italy are keen on signing Firpo as well but they are more interested in a loan deal as opposed to signing the player permanently.
Barcelona are thought to be under financial stress and they are looking to sell the player on a permanent basis.
SL View: Could be a superb addition for both teams
West Ham could definitely use more depth in the left-back department and Firpo could compete with Aaron Cresswell for the starting berth next season.
Cresswell has proven to be a reliable defender on the left flank for David Moyes but Firpor will add more attacking quality. He is better than the Hammers ace going forward.
Meanwhile, Southampton have lost Ryan Bertrand and they could use a quality left-back like Firpo as well.
Both teams have the resources to pull off the transfer and it remains to be seen where the player ends up eventually.
The 24-year-old defender has the potential to succeed in the Premier League and he will be desperate to prove himself in England if the transfer goes through. He has had limited opportunities at Barcelona and he will have to point to prove if he moves to West Ham/Southampton.
