Kieran Tierney is set to sign a new five-year contract with Arsenal that will be finalized once Scotland’s Euro 2020 campaign is over, according to reliable journalist David Ornstein.

The  24-year-old established himself as a first-team regular for the Gunners last season as he went on to make 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals.

The report added that the new contract will see the Scotland international’s salary increased to £110 000 per week. There are also reports that he is considered a future Arsenal captain.

Even though Arsenal finished a frustrating eighth in the league last season, Tierney was one of the few bright sparks in the team along with Bukayo Saka.

The news is a positive development for the Gunners. Mikel Arteta’s side is now in a challenging period of development. Their aim for next season will not be to win the league but more to try and once again challenge for Champions League qualification if not Europa League qualification.

The one concern about the contract will be Tierney’s salary. Arsenal are not set to be playing in the Champions League next season but they are still offering players salaries that they can expect to earn by playing for clubs with Champions League status. Is this really sustainable for their long-term sustainability?
