Manchester United have been linked with a move for the Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane in recent weeks and it appears that the Red Devils have now made their move to sign him.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Premier League side have submitted a £50 million bid for the French international but Real Madrid are holding out for a fee of around £80 million.
The report further states that the Premier League side remain in talks with the Spanish club and they are hoping to agree on a compromise over the fee.
The 76-cap French defender will be a free agent next year and the £80 million asking price since quite unreasonable.
He is yet to sign a new deal with the Spanish outfit and Real Madrid are thought to be keen on selling him this summer.
It remains to be seen whether the two clubs can agree on a compromise over the coming weeks.
Varane is currently away on international duty and he will be hoping to help his country win the European Championships.
Real Madrid signed David Alaba on a free transfer from Byron Munich earlier this summer and the Austrian could be Varane’s replacement at Santiago Bernabeu next season.
SL View: Varane could transform Manchester United
As for Manchester United, they will need to bring in a top-class partner for Harry Maguire if they want to launch a title challenge next season and Varane is undoubtedly one of the best defenders in the world.
He could have a major transformative effect on the United side like Ruben Dias and Virgil van Dijk.
